The weight of it closes in.
It holds me hostage. Enslaves me. Entraps me. Ensnares me.
What if … something goes wrong?
What if … I say the wrong thing?
What if … I cause more problems?
In the midst, I hear His Voice, speaking His undeniable Truth.
For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity,
but of power, love, and self-discipline (2 Timothy 1:7)
Power. Love. Self-Discipline.
The Spirit gives me power.
My heart knows but my head … my thoughts continues to bind me.
What if … I fail?
What if … I do it wrong?
Then His Voice cuts clear to my heart, speaking words only He can speak; capturing thoughts and replacing them with these:
What if … you do not do anything?
What if … you remain where you are?
The fear of acting consumes me, but the fear of not acting … unbearable.
“Go,” the command is imprinted on my heart. “I am with you.”
I step out of my car and walk the few steps to my patio door. I feel a nudge to look down.
And there it is.
Lying in my driveway, a sign. A tangible. A love note from my Lord. He is with me.
Lord, help me not to doubt. Let me trust in You and in Your unfailing love every moment of every day. Show me how to take every thought captive and make it obedient to Your Truth (2 Corinthians 10:5). I pray this in the mighty name of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
